Nature
Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route’s “Snow Corridor”

A highlight of spring and early summer trip! “Snow Corridor” refers to the wall of snow created by plowing the roads near the terminal. Every year from late April to late June, during the peak season, visitors can walk between walls of snow which tower over 65 feet (20 meters) tall. The close-up view of the snow wall is more impressive than you can imagine!

Food
Toyama Bay, a Treasure Trove of Seafood

A popular diving destination, Toyama Bay is one of Japan’s three deepest bays where a treasure trove of seafood can be found! Toyama Bay sushi is a luxury, made with local Toyama rice and fresh fish, but even conveyor-belt sushi boasts an incredible flavor. Masuzushi is a local Toyama dish made by lining a cedar box with bamboo leaves, then layering and pressing together salted trout and vinegared rice. There are several markets where you can experience the superb seafood that can only be enjoyed in Toyama!

Culture
Gokayama : A World Heritage Site, Inhabited by People

Gokayama is a neighborhood lined with 100 to 350-year old thatched houses called “Gasho-zukuri”. This type of home is very rare as it can only be found in this neighborhood in all of Japan. Residents continue to live in the village to this day and visitors can enjoy partaking in this traditional way of life. In addition to a gassho-zukuri museum, there are also souvenir stores, restaurants, and a guest house which offers a cultural experience that one can only find in Toyama.

Visit Toyama and experience unique nature, food, and culture in a way that cannot be found in the city.
